B2 phrases to listen for. What is the context of each phrase?

1, get rid of - try to make disappear

6, let somebody down - not help somebody so they are at a disadvantage

Finally, he had made a rather poor attempt at washing himself to get rid of the smell - especially his upper body and under his arms.

2, be taken in
He felt anxious, reading and turning over the letter in his hands again and again checking that it really did say he had won a million pounds. Had he been taken in? Was it just a joke? Suddenly, he began to have doubts.
