A lot of these objects are for doing the housework. We also say to do the household chores. In fact, we use the verb do and not make for many of these tasks that humans used to do. We used to do the washing up (plates), and do the washing (clothes). However, we still have to do the dusting, sweeping, cleaning and cooking. We even say to do lunch, do the dinner meaning to prepare these meals. An exception may be when we create something when cooking. So although we say to do spaghetti, we usually say to make a cake or make an apple pie.
