Practice changing direct speech to reported speech (affirmative and negative phrases).

The direct speech sentences below were said a week ago. Complete the reported speech sentences. Omit the relative pronoun that. You can use the contracted (I'd) form or the complete (I had) form of the verb.

Example:
Mary: "I've fallen off my bicycle."

Answer:
Mary said she had fallen off her     bicycle.

1) Mary: "I've lost my purse."

Mary said purse.

2) John: "The car's not running well."

John said running well.

3) Dave: "She won't help me with the housework."

Dave said him with the housework.

4) Steve: "I must finish the report."

Steve said the report.

5) Melissa: "He can borrow my car."

Melissa said car.

6) Mary: "He didn't have enough money to pay lunch."

Mary said enough money to pay lunch.

7) John: "I ought to tell her about it."

John said her about it.

8) Dave: "I don't want to see her ever again."

Dave said her ever again.

9) Steve: "The PC hadn't been switched on."

Steve said the PC on.

10) Melissa: "I might stay in bed."

Melissa said in bed.
