Write the definite article "the" or "The"
where you see: ___
or omit it.
___ doctors work long hours.
We omit the definite article if we are talking in general and
include it if we are being very specific.
In number 3, both are possible because we are being specific
(Andalusian villages) but we are still talking generally about this
category of houses. The first option is more common.
In number 10, we prefer the article when the noun is followed
by "of".
1) Pollution is getting worse.
2) The books on my shelf are in alphabetical order.
3) Houses in Andalusian villages are often white. / The houses
in Andalusian villages are often white.
4) We love music.
5) People these days are not the same as they were.
6) We all need money to live.
7) Please take the things off that chair and sit down.
8) Cars are not used in some places in Mongolia.
9) Captain Kirk of Star Trek said that space was the final frontier.
10) The whales of the Baltic Sea are almost extinct.
